Our ethos

  • All children and young people with asthma have the right to excellent asthma care that meets all national recommendations, irrespective of where they receive that care.
  • Educating and supporting all who are involved in looking after children with asthma is fundamental in delivery of this care
  • Care needs to be seamless between services, with health professionals, teachers, families and patients working together
  • Patients and families should be empowered to self-manage their asthma.

What is Beat Asthma?

Asthma is common – about 1 in 10 children and Young People in the UK suffer from it. A lot of people with asthma have mild disease and their symptoms may not interfere with their lives at all. As a result, a lot of people don’t worry about asthma or don’t take symptoms too seriously. But not all asthma is mild, and even mild asthma that is not properly treated can impact on quality of life, stopping people doing the things they want to do

Meet our Ambassador

laura weightmanLaura Weightman is a middle-distance runner who competes in the 1500 and 5000 meters.
Her achievements include reaching the 1500 metres final at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics and winning silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Her Mile run best of 4:20.49 in 2018, ranks her in the world all-time top 25.

Laura also suffers from asthma and is proud to be our BeatAsthma Ambassador.
